The Bastrop Animal Control organization became a reality in 1998. We've grown since then and continue to do so as Bastrop County grows. Currently, we have 3 separate buildings containing a total of 90 large indoor/outdoor kennels and 8 play yards. We have 30 indoor cat kennels. We also have a 3 room cattery, that enables cats to live together in colony type environments until they find their forever home. If you have ever worked with or adopted a shelter pet, you know just how much they crave the attention and love we and our volunteers can provide and their eternal gratitude when they find their forever home at last.

Found a Stray Animal?
If you have found a stray animal you may bring the animal to us Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. if you are able to safely do so.  If you feel it is unsafe for you to handle the animal please contact our animal control officers at (512) 549-5160.

***Note***Animal Control officers do not pick up stray animals after 4:00 p.m. unless the animal is aggressive or injured.
Ways to Support our ShelterWe’ve made it even easier for you to purchase items on our “Wish List” and have created a list on Amazon. We have found that since we don’t get any confirmations from Amazon your donations are not being acknowledged – there is an option to include a gift card so be sure to do this so we can say THANK YOU!!!
Surrendering Your Pet
If you need to surrender your pet you may do so by calling the shelter at (512) 549-5160 to schedule an appointment.  Please note that we only accept owner surrendered pets by appointment.  If you come to the shelter to leave your pet without an appointment, you will be asked to make one and come back at that time. If you need to find a home for your pet and would like to do so without leaving your pet at the shelter, please contact our public programs coordinator either by phone at (512) 549-5164 or by email.

Once you have scheduled your appointment, please be sure to bring any veterinarian records you may have for your animal as well as a government issued photo ID and the appropriate fees, which can be found on the animal control quicklink .  You will need to be prepared to fill out an animal profile for that pet, and wait while we update vaccinations, so please allot 30 minutes to 1 hour for your appointment.  Our goal is to safely bring the animal into our care so that he or she has the best care possible and the best possible chance at being adopted.

Please understand that while our staff and volunteers do our best to place every animal that comes through our doors into a forever home or with a rescue organization, there is still a possibility that your pet may be euthanized as we are an open intake facility.  The more information you can give us on your animal, the better their chance at adoption is, so please be completely truthful when filling out the animal profile forms at your appointment.
